Who are your taste-makers?

As a task at Uni, we had to select two influential icons whether it's to do with fashion, photography, or art! So I went and had a thought, it took a while because I've never actually thought about it too much. In the end, I came up with one fashion icon and one photography icon.

Diana Vreeland and Nick Knight - so why them? Here are my reasons:

DV
- She went from 'rags to riches'
- Real life Miranda Priestly which I admire so much
- Opened her eyes outside the atmosphere of catwalks and shows
- Embraced 'ugliness' in models e.g. 'tall? elongate her legs.. big nose? shoot in profile'
- Great enthusiasm in life - she was bullied by family but she rose above and achieved her beautiful life
- Definitely someone to look up to, as she never gave up, always herself and didn't care about other people bringing her down
- Own life brief and trusted her own opinions
- Amazing woman - achieved everything from nothing
- Creating styles and movement in fashion
- Didn't know who she was until I started University, however, after watching her documentary, she's made me so inspired and kind of believe in myself to achieve well in life

NK
- Reputation for pushing boundaries
- Not only fashion photography - worked on controversial issues such as racism, ageism and fatism etc
- Photography appearing on many magazine covers
- Known in fashion history - Nov 1993 British Vogue cover featuring Livid Evangelista
- Shot campaigns for many high end brands: Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein, YSL, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and more!
- Shot record covers with David Bowie, George Michael and more!
- Not only a one trick pony, he directs music videos too - Lady Gaga - Born this Way
- Family man
- Always been an inspiration to me since GCSE photography
- His photography are like pieces of art

- His imagination for his stunning shoots gets recognised and appeared in the V&A, Saatchi Gallery and Tate Modern.
