What is the Definition of Contrast in Art?

Contrast is a principle of Art.

We had a lecture on visual contrast and in my seminar groups, we had to experiment on powerpoint with an image and a colour palette consisting of 3 colours to create several visual contrast boards. We had to consider the points that were spoken about in the lecture such as: using visual contrast as a prompt for design analysis and using visual contrast as a prompt for idea analysis.

Design analysis:
vertical v horizontal, single v multiple, whole v partial, colour v mono, old v warm, matt v gloss,
flat v low relief, type v image, clean v busy
ETC

Idea analysis:
male v female, past v present, fantasy v reality, narrative v poetic ETC
